The demand for low power and high dynamic range makes the design of digital sensor readout circuits quite challenging. Traditionally, these circuits are realized using amplifiers with passive feedback or precision analog com parators which are power hungry and not amenable to technology scaling. This thesis presents design techniques for a low power, amplifier-free, digital sensor current readout circuit. It is realized using an implicit passive integrator, VCO-based quantizer, and mostly digital circuits. A digital IIR filter is used to increase the loop gain and bias the sensor accurately across a wide range of val ues. Fabricated in a 0.18μm CMOS process, the prototype readout circuit achieves 900pA accuracy over an input current range of 4μA, consumes a total of 77.8μA current, and occupies an active area of 0.36mm . c ©Copyright by Praveen Prabha March 7, 2014 All Rights Reserved Design Techniques For VCO Based Digital Sensor Readout Circuits by Praveen Prabha

The rapid scaling in modern CMOS technology has motivated the researchers to design new analog-to-digital converter (ADC) architectures that can properly work in lower supply voltage. An exchanging the data quantization procedure from the amplitude to the time domain, can be a promising alternative well adapt with the technology scaling. This paper is going to review the recent development in t...

Due to the expected increase of defects in circuits based on deep submicron technologies, reliability has become an important design criterion. Although different approaches have been developed to estimate reliability in digital circuits and some measuring concepts have been separately presented to reveal the quality of analog circuit reliability in the literature, there is a gap to estimate re...
